SBC 24
OCTOBER 2017 NEWSLETTER

A NOTE FROM WENDY

Dearest Cruisers,

With under 100 days to go we're getting excited and we hope you are too!  We know you have questions and we are doing our best to address them.  Everyone has been so patient while we determine our cruise destinations due to the effects of recent hurricanes… and we thank you.

For now, I’d like to share the newest additions to our line-up, so here goes:  Casey James, a finalist from American Idol who has a song co-written and performed with Delbert on his latest album, Anson Funderburgh, Bob DiPiero, Tom Hambridge, Big Joe Maher, The Howlin' Brothers, and John Wesley Satterfield whom you'll hear about from Delaney below!  And of course, our very own Mars Czar, Scott Hubbard.  Professor Hubbard from Stanford University and NASA will talk about humans going to Mars- those who want to go.  Then there are those we would like to send, but that's for another day.  We're looking forward to seeing you all very, very soon!

We are working with Holland America to nail down a new itinerary and we're getting very close.  Remember, we are vying with every other cruise line for port access.  That said, we have told HAL we will go in any direction that makes sense.  We just want to see each other and have fun!

So while we wait...get a jump on your holiday shopping by pre-ordering the upcoming Delbert McClinton biography, One of the Fortunate Few, by Diana Finlay Hendricks. The release date is December 6th and you can get it on Amazon HERE or Barnes & Noble HERE

Delbert and Diana will hold a book signing session on the ship. Diana will talk about writing biographies and Delbert will talk about himself, with varying degrees of discomfort :-)

A NOTE FROM DELANEY

We are very excited to announce John Wesley Satterfield will be joining us on SBC24!  John is a talented singer/songwriter and the president and founder of Hope Song, a non-profit program that brings the healing power of music to the patients of CHIPSA hospital in Mexico.  We encourage you to check out this organization and donate to their cause if you are so inclined. If you have sailed with us before you know how truly therapeutic music can be and that's what John and his team provide for these patients. We will be hosting a special writers round on SBC24 specifically honoring Hope Song and their mission! You won't want to miss it!

DELBERT BIOGRAPHY - ONE FO

“Well, for one thing, there’s a whole lotta guys who’d have liked to been in my shoes…”

This biographic journey through the life of multi-Grammy award winner Delbert McClinton is also the story of the times of this iconic singer/songwriter – telling the history of significant American musical moments and movements.  From his birth on the high plains of West Texas during World War II, to the chartered luxury cruise ships of the 21st century, Delbert McClinton admits he has been One of the Fortunate Few.

Today, more than sixty years after he first stepped onto a stage, Delbert McClinton shows no signs of slowing down.  In his 77th year, he continues to play sold out concert halls and dance halls, theatres and festival events across the nation. An annual highlight for his fans is the Delbert McClinton Sandy Beaches Cruise, which is in its 24th year, making it the longest running musical theme luxury cruise in history.  The annual chartered cruise brings thousands of superfans together every year for a floating, week-long, sold-out music festival, featuring legendary artists, award-winning songwriters, and up-and-coming new talent.

The Delbert McClinton story is more than the story of a rags-to-riches musician. A career deeply rooted in Texas spans the nation, from Los Angeles to New York, and from Chicago to Miami.  The life and times of Delbert McClinton provide a soundtrack for many of the great American musical movements, and some great moments in American history.  Chance meetings and casual recollections, as McClinton’s life casually collides with memorable moments that blur the pages of history books.

From watching an early space missile test off Cape Canaveral in Florida to the JFK assassination; presidential inaugurations and national benefit concerts, tour bus breakdowns and high profile crime scenes, McClinton’s unique story of American history brings with it a strong rhythm section and a hot harmonica lead.

Leaving on a jet plane...

All airlines including Southwest are booking flights for the dates of SBC 24.

When you’re looking at flights, here are a couple things to keep in mind.

  • If you are flying to the Fort Lauderdale airport (FLL) on Saturday, January 6th (the day of the cruise) your flight should land no later than 2pm.  This gives you time to claim your luggage and take a taxi to the cruise terminal.

  • If you are flying home from the Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, January 13th (the day we return) we suggest you book your flight no earlier than Noon.  This is because there is always a chance the we might be delayed due to Customs, immigration or weather.

Party!

Sandy Beaches Cruises will be hosting a pre cruise party at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale on the evening of January 5th.  Full details can be found HERE

Pre-cruise hotel

We are running low on rooms at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina, so don’t delay in making your reservation.  Full details can be found HERE.

Spread the word!

Tell all your friends and family about SBC 24!  You could be eligible for $50 in onboard credit for each new reservation.
